Henz Pacific, Solarvest to Co-Develop Solar-Powered EV Bus Charging Stations in Sarawak

Kuching, 3 October 2023 – Solarvest Holdings Berhad (“Solarvest”) and Henz Pacific Sdn Bhd (“Henz Pacific”), the bus operator of Kuching Metro, are pleased to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to jointly develop revolutionary and innovative solar-powered electric bus charging facilities, integrated with battery energy storage system at Henz Smart Depot, Kuching, Sarawak.

Meanwhile, Solarvest is responsible for providing the solar technology and expertise, designing, developing, and installing the solar panels, as well as overseeing the integration of its solar technology with Henz Pacific’s charging infrastructure.

The partnership is aligned with commitments by the Sarawak Ministry of Energy and Environmental Sustainability to responsible tourism; this initiative aims to decrease carbon emissions and air pollution in line with the Paris Agreement. This international climate change treaty calls for the replacement of combustion engine buses with clean energy alternatives, reinforcing our commitment to clean energy technology adoption in public transportation throughout Sarawak. The two organizations will engage in technology transfer and foster innovation in clean energy transport systems and support the industry’s advancement in the field.

Executive Director and Chief Strategy Officer of Solarvest, Mr. Leon Liew Chee Ing (刘骐英) hailed the collaboration, stating, “Solarvest is honored to play a significant role in this endeavor, as this collaboration exemplifies our commitment to sustainability and empowering local Sarawakian talent to take their place as experts in the renewable energy sector. We are excited to contribute our clean energy expertise to this remarkable project with the aim of driving a pronounced positive impact on the environment and transport industry in Sarawak.”

Managing Director of Henz Pacific, Mr. Henry Lai emphasised the significance of clean energy in transportation, saying, “The global trend towards clean energy buses, particularly those powered by electricity, is on the rise, and it can harmoniously coexist with solar as clean energy source. We are looking forward to turning Kuching Metro into an integrated and sustainable public transit network through strategic collaboration with United Nations Industrial Development Organization (“UNIDO”) and Malaysia Green Technology And Climate Change Corporation (“MGTC”) for this electric vehicle (“EV”) bus charging station project demonstration.”

This collaboration closely aligns with Solarvest’s 5-Year Strategic Roadmap aimed at evolving into a regenerative clean energy expert.
